MK Surveys were commissioned to assist with a sensitive vibration monitoring project where a new development was under construction within close proximity to a power station. The construction involved pilling, causing significant vibration which was predicted to endanger the assets of the power station nearby.

The monitoring solution utilised on site involved five vibration sensors with designated data loggers, mounted on the concrete bases of the assets adjacent to site. The data loggers were able to be communicated with from our head office using a modem to dial in and retrieve the data.

The data, continuously recorded throughout the working day, was downloaded at 30 minute intervals, collated into a database and analysed for any vibration values out of the specified tolerances. An alert system was established which contacted relevant personnel by SMS message if readings from the automated vibration monitoring were over certain thresholds with the data formatted into graphs for weekly reporting to the client.
