Nov 2013: West Midlands Office
MK Surveys have now been confirmed as framework suppliers for Topographical and Utility Survey Services to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
Following a formal PQQ and tender process and with a total score of 92% MK Surveys have been selected to provide these services until 2017.
The framework launch coincides with the expansion and growth of our West Midlands Division with our recent move into new office space in Kingswinford.
Inclusion in the framework and the opportunities it is likely to bring, will build on the work and contracts already carried out across the Sandwell and wider West Midlands area.
Nov 2013: Movember
Twenty of the MK Surveys team have spent the month of November nurturing and styling their facial hair in order to raise vital funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation which in turn supports a number of men’s health charities including prostate and testicular cancer. Starting clean shaven on 1st November, which made a change for a few of the team members! There has been a wide array of styles developed including one or two handlebars, the odd porn star and at least three Abra Kadabra’s. As an aside there was an in-house competition judged by the Admin Team of Barbara and Gail who after much deliberation decided that Tim Philpot had the best MK Surveys Mo followed by Tim Wingrove and Graham Fowell with the wooden spoon going to Kieran McConnell.
Sep 2013: Saltend Chemicals Plant, Hull
MK Surveys has recently completed their 100th week at the Saltend Chemicals Plant in Hull for BP. The team is considered an integral part of BP’s continued commitment to their “Believe In Zero” policy, by providing site mark out services to their permit signatory team. The Utility Department has recently been awarded an extension to their contract at the plant and will continue to have a presence on site until at least September 2014. We extend a great thank you to BP and to all of our surveyors who have worked so hard to make this milestone possible.

Aug 2013: Utility Department Investments - RD8000's
MK Surveys Utility Department have taken delivery of two more RD8000 Precision Pipe & Cable Locators manufactured by Radiodetection and supplied by SCCS.
Data obtained using the RD8000 is a major part of all Utility Surveys, with the RD800 used extensively to locate underground cables, metallic pipes and ducts/sewers (when used with the flexi-trace). The latest RD8000’s benefit from improved accuracy and ILOC which allows the operator to increase the output and change frequency on the transmitter remotely via a long range Bluetooth link.

Aug 2013: Utility Department Investments - GPR
MK Surveys Utility Survey Department has taken delivery of their latest IDS Detector DUO, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). This latest addition to the fleet is our fifth Detector DUO purchased from Drilline Products Ltd (the UK Distributor of IDS Products) and makes MK Surveys the largest user of the Detector Duo System in the UK, having purchased the first system (delivered worldwide) back in 2007, we have now taken delivery of the 100th system supplied by Drilline to the UK market.
The IDS Detector DUO is specifically designed for on-site utility detection, it has the facility of a dual frequency antenna, which enables the operator to detect both shallow and deep targets simultaneously which increases the detection performance and being a digitised system you can save the data for later viewing or post processing.

Aug 2013: Surveys4BIM
MK Surveys East Midlands were recently awarded a large topographical, utility and measured building survey of some large industrial buildings. The measured building survey was required to be a complete 3d CAD model. Utilising our in house 3d laser scanner we were able to complete the survey with minimal disruption to the working buildings scanning throughout. Utilising this data we created a full pointcloud which we utilised to produce the final 3d CAD models

May 2013: Surveys4BIM
MK Surveys were recently commissioned to produce a 3D model and detailed drawings of a listed staircase in Queen Anne’s Gate, City of Westminster. One of the planning conditions imposed on our client was that they had to reinstate a listed staircase that had been removed from their property years before. Fortunately similar examples still existed within the neighbouring properties. Hence MK Surveys were commissioned to record one of these using 3D Laser Scanning and to produce a 3D model that could then be used by the joiners and staircase manufacturers.
